Paxar Corporation, a provider of merchandising systems including bar code, RFID and identification technologies for leading brand owners, apparel manufacturers and retailers, is sponsoring the Apparel & Footwear Summit hosted by RFID Journal and the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA).

The Summit, which will be held from August 15-16, 2006 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, will address various issues and concerns surrounding RFID in the apparel and footwear industries.  Through conference sessions and exhibits, attendees will gain a thorough understanding of the benefits and challenges of applying RFID technologies, as well as how RFID can improve internal processes and increase savings. The conference sessions will also touch on using RFID data as a tool to drive process improvements.

‘As RFID takes hold as an enabling technology in the apparel and footwear industries, Paxar stands ready with a suite of solutions for retailers and brand owners to drive supply-chain improvements around increased inventory visibility and accuracy, the reduction in out-of-stocks, replenishment times and shrinkage, and anti-counterfeiting measures. Our participation in the leading apparel item-level RFID trials around the world, along with our breadth of experience in compliance RFID labeling, has given us the ability to assist in a range of programs, from developing a fully-integrated RFID program to something as simple as providing direction to meet a compliance mandate,’ said Chris Robins, vice president of trade marketing for Paxar Corporation. ‘We are looking at all the ways in which RFID will impact our market and our customer’s businesses, and developing a comprehensive set of products, services and strategic alliances from which to grow our RFID business globally.’

This first-ever RFID event will focus on apparel and footwear, and include interactive events for all attendees, as well as presentations by industry leaders such as James Stafford from Marks & Spencer, in whose program Paxar is actively involved. System integrators, end users, consultants, and vendors will come together to learn how RFID can benefit their organizations.

Paxar has developed a methodology to help in the consideration and decision to move into RFID that includes conducting a business value assessment, project plan development, pilot test planning and implementation, as well as assessing the next steps that need to be taken in advance of an organization-wide roll-out of RFID.
