Ink jet and laser manufacturer Domino Printing Sciences has expanded its group development team with the appointments of Kirsten Telfer as group software director and Chris Beesley as program director.

Telfer holds a maths degree from Sheffield University and joins Domino from Thales Underwater Systems, a naval defense supplier of Sonar Systems. The international bias of Thales accustomed Telfer to working with teams in different locations and her time with the company saw her manage responsibility for software development activities across four sites. Prior to her role at Thales, Telfer began her career as a software engineer, progressing to demanding roles in software and project management where she managed teams of up to 50 Software Engineers.

Part of Telfer’s remit will be to identify and deploy best practices across the Domino Group such that, wherever software is developed, consistency is maintained in order to enable wider compatibility across the range of Domino products. Commenting on the key objectives of her new role, Telfer said, ‘I see my primary goal within Domino as the continued improvement of our software development practices. This will ensure that confidence in our forecasting is maintained, whilst guaranteeing delivery on time, to budget and at a high quality.’

Chris Beesley joins Domino from telecommunications component supplier Bookham Plc, where he was project director for the last three years. This role saw him lead new product introductions and manage R&D teams working on tunable laser and 10Gbit transmitter products. As such, Beesley assumed responsibility for technical delivery from multiple teams working on complex new product projects, with timescales from weeks to years and revenue opportunities of several million dollars per quarter. Before joining Bookham, Beesley worked at Hewlett Packard for over ten years and, more recently, held director level positions at both Marconi and a UK start-up facility for JDS Uniphase.

A graduate in physics from Bristol University and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Beesley will be responsible for developing and growing the program management function within Domino. This will focus on analyzing the existing infrastructure for new projects and implementing enhancement opportunities to ensure an even more efficient and reliable process from creation to delivery. Commenting on his new role, Beesley said, ‘Part of Domino’s ethos is to constantly consider ways of improving its methods and processes, in order to increase efficiency and better serve our customers. Adhering to this principle, I look forward to playing a role in maintaining Domino’s leading market position.’

Commenting on the appointments, managing director of Domino Printing Sciences, Nigel Bond, added, ‘Much of Domino’s success can be attributed to the way in which we constantly raise our own standards by reviewing existing practices and setting ourselves new targets. The track record and high level of experience of both Kirsten and Chris will be critical to upholding our reputation for quality and service and I am delighted to welcome them to the Domino team.’
