Stork Prints Austria, technology leaders in direct laser engraving systems for flexo, letterpress and rotary screen printing formes, has appointed Dr Markus Bohrer as manager of laser research.

In his new position, Mr Bohrer and his team will be carrying out extensive studies into advancing the beam quality and power stability of CO2 laser sources.

Dr Bohrer has vast experience in this specific field. He graduated from the Technical University of Vienna, where, in 1992, he went on to gain his Ph.D. for work in high-power lasers. Since then, he has collaborated with both the university and the Institute for High-Power CO2 Lasers, conducting research and development into CO2 lasers for industrial applications.

Stefan Rckl, general manager, Stork Prints Austria, commented: ‘We believe the laser engraving process offers the best way to meet the web-printing market’s need for quality improvement and workflow-simplification. At the same time, we see a great potential for further improvements in the process - and the addition of Dr. Bohrer to our team makes us well-placed to achieve this.’

Stork Prints’ laser-engraving program offers the printing industry both increased quality and much simplified workflow, to meet the market place’s need for dedicated solutions for both wide and narrow-web printing. At Labelexpo Europe 2005, Stork Prints successfully launched the Helios 6010 engraver for narrow-web flexo, letterpress and screen printing formes, and the rotaLEN 5511, a dedicated system for engraving the welded nickel, RotaMesh screen cylinders.
