Sun Chemical appoints new packaging marketing director

Sun Chemical, a manufacturer of printing inks and pigments, has appointed Angus Blundell as marketing director for liquid and packaging inks, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
Based in Rochdale, UK, Blundell started at Sun Chemical on June 1 2012 and will report to Felipe Mellado, chief marketing officer and board member.
As a strong and growing area for Sun Chemical, packaging continues to provide the company with major sales opportunities. Blundell will drive the planning and delivery of programs to increase Sun Chemical’s sales value, market share and profitability along with identifying new market and business opportunities.
He will head up a team of six, working closely with Sun Chemical’s business teams in order to manage, develop and grow the products and services Sun Chemical offers to existing and potential packaging customers, as well as other entities higher up the value chain such as brand owners.
Blundell has a strong marketing background; his most recent position before joining Sun Chemical was at PPG Architectural Coatings, a multinational coatings company, where he held the position of marketing director, northern Europe region. In this role he redesigned brand strategies to deliver growth in highly competitive retail and trade markets and managed a team of 50 across seven countries.
He graduated from Newcastle Business School, gaining a chartered institute of marketing postgraduate diploma. His first roles were spent with United Provincial Newspapers and Field Packaging Group. In 2002 he joined Kalon Decorative Products as a category manager and was promoted rapidly. In 2006 he was appointed brand marketing controller for the Johnstone’s and Leyland Paint brands, where he built success in the sales of these brands through innovative marketing, leading to his first regional role and then to his most recent post in PPG.
Felipe Mellado, Sun Chemical, said: ‘Angus is a highly talented marketing professional and we are excited that he has decided to join Sun Chemical. We look forward to working together to create and deliver a successful brand strategy that continues to drive the company’s packaging growth trajectory.’
