The RFID Networking Forum announces Breakthrough Awards

The RFID Networking Forum has announced that it will host the RFID Breakthrough Awards 2005 at The Sheraton Skyline Hotel in Heathrow on November 7th. The awards ceremony, which will include a gala dinner, will see honors presented to end-users of RFID technology in a number different categories, including The Small Enterprise Award and The RFID Innovation Award.

The judging panel, which includes such names as Steve Cousins (CEO, GS1) and Richard Foggie (Head of Electronics, DTI), will award nominees from a wide range of industries; many of who have previously kept details of their RFID use under terms of non-disclosure. The nominees, nominated by suppliers of the technology, range from The Nottinghamshire Police Force Armed Response Unit to the intriguing collaboration between Biffa, the waste disposal managers, and Nokia, the mobile communications giant. Other organizations vying for the prizes include Rolls-Royce, CEMEX, Nestle, GlaxoSmithKline, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Colder Products Company, Essex County Council, Marks and Spencer, pH Europe, Titan Plastech, Microlise, Aegate Plc, The Finland Post Corporation and Rugby Cement.

Ed Cowley, judging panel member and Director of the RFID Center, enthused: ‘The RFID Breakthrough Awards will help raise the profile of RFID and its application to business sectors other than the much publicized one of the retail supply chain. The Awards will recognize and reward the innovation and hard work of individuals and organizations in the RFID community, which can only be beneficial to the whole auto-id industry.’

The RFID Breakthrough Awards 2005 are being held in conjunction with the RFID Futures Conference and the RFID Networking Forum, which are being held at The Sheraton Skyline Hotel in Heathrow on the days of the 7th and 8th of November respectively.
