Safeware Quasar workshop focuses on REACH solutions

Chemicals manufacturers, importers and users are being invited to a workshop hosted by software specialists Safeware Quasar to highlight an innovative solution to challenging new European legislation.

The workshop, taking place on 22 April at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, UK, will be hosted by Bob Warner of Chemwise Associates, a leading UK expert on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals).

REACH replaces more than 40 European Union (EU) directives and regulations with the aim of better protecting human health and the environment and encouraging the chemicals sector to develop safer products. It came into force on 1 June 2007 and over the next decade will create a single database of all chemicals used in the EU, around 30,000 in total.

REACH is the first in a new series of Safeware modules to help the chemicals industry comply with REACH. It integrates fully with Safeware’s software SDS Professional, or SDS Pro, the UK market leader for the production of safety data sheets (SDSs), which provide detailed hazard information on dangerous substances.

The module acts as a chemical inventory analysis tool, specifically designed to help companies to effectively implement the REACH regulations. Simon Robinson, from Safeware Quasar, said: ‘We will continue to enhance our existing modules, and develop new ones, to assist companies to comply with REACH regulations as they continue to evolve. This workshop is the first in a series designed to support that process.

‘We recognize that REACH is a significant and far-reaching challenge for the chemicals industry and have developed REACH as a user-friendly, practical solution to help manufacturers, importers and downstream users achieve compliance.’
