Avery Dennison and Armor-Iimak launch sustainable labeling partnership

Two industry leaders combine their product innovations to address growing concerns and regulations regarding sustainability, particularly in the area of waste.

Avery Dennison and Armor-Iimak have launched a collaborative technology combining the AD RDX MC paper-based label material with the new AWR XL thermal transfer ribbon at Labelexpo Europe in Barcelona.

The AWR XL ribbon, launched just a few days before Labelexpo Europe 2025, uses 26 percent less plastic than standard thermal transfer ribbons, is 100 percent solvent-free and, according to the manufacturer, saves up to 830g of CO2 per roll compared to standard products. Thanks to its ultrathin PET and innovative formulation, AWR XL is claimed to be the longest wax ribbon on the market. This extra length boosts operational efficiency by offering 40 percent additional printing time and optimizes the number of rolls, which reduces logistical costs.

The Avery Dennison RDX MC label material provides similar reductions. It is thinner and lighter than traditional labels, introducing 5 percent water and CO2 savings. Similarly, it offers more labels per roll, resulting in fewer changeovers and lower logistics costs. Less waste, more efficiency.

'Our effort towards sustainability is the key strategy at Avery Dennison. Our product launches are focused on sustainability and compliance,' said Lucia Bacova, product manager for paper at Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. 'To help achieve upcoming PPWR targets and help customers with complete solutions, it is key to collaborate across the value chain. And we found Armor-Iimak, a well-established partner who shares the same vision, to introduce robust solutions together for the market.’

'AWR XL delivers a perfect print experience when it's combined with the Avery Dennison RDX MC paper-based product,' added Pierre-Arnaud Hommel, communications manager at Armor-Iimak. 'There are fewer roll changeovers, so our customers can gain precious printer running time, which is a direct improvement in productivity.'

'We are making thinner possible together. Industry cooperation is inevitable, as together we can contribute even more to our planet, people, provide added value sustainable solutions and operational improvements for our customers,' emphasized Bacova. ‘The Avery Dennison RDX MC has been a successful solution on the market for those appreciating less material usage while maintaining performance, the same as AWR XL now provides for Armor-Iimak’s customers. These two products fit together perfectly. Less is even more together.’
