Avery Dennison expands AD Circular program with Soprema partnership

The partnership transforms used glassine liners into sustainable building insulation across Europe.

Avery Dennison has partnered with Soprema to significantly expand its AD Circular liner recycling program across Europe, where Soprema will serve as the company's primary liner recycling partner and transform used glassine liners into sustainable building insulation through its patented cellulose wadding process.

Soprema can recycle glassine liners into cellulose wadding through a patented, in-house process recognized worldwide. The partnership aims to enable partners in the labeling and packaging industry to embrace circular economy principles by leveraging Soprema's established recycling infrastructure and expertise.

Under the AD Circular, Soprema will collect liners manufactured by any brand or supplier across various European countries. Each year, clients receive an annual certification offering clear, quantifiable proof of the total tonnage of liner recycled.

Collected liners will be repurposed into high-performance cellulose wadding for building insulation, making buildings more energy efficient, decreasing demand for virgin resources and promoting a more circular economy. One ton of glassine liners can insulate up to two attics and last for the entire lifetime of the building.

'Our partnership with Soprema highlights the transformative potential of cross-industry collaboration. By combining our strengths and expertise, we're able to significantly scale our sustainability impact, driving circularity not only within labeling and packaging but across the broader construction sector,' commented Sophia Savvides, director of sustainability and strategy at Avery Dennison EMENA.
