First Inspirational Packaging Awards opens for entries

The IPA program has been designed to celebrate the very best in design and innovation in the international packaging and POS markets.

IPA 2014 includes 16 awards, covering drinks, food, and perfumes, cosmetics and fashion.  In each of these categories, prizes will be awarded for best innovation in use, best branding and design, and most innovative labeling. A further award for the most innovative bag in its shipping and use is open to perfumes, cosmetics and fashion entries.

Further awards will be presented for household products (best package to raise the best innovation in use), PLV (best innovation in its use, transportation, etc, and best branding and design) ecology and packaging (best eco-innovation in the field of waste management, materials, etc), miscellaneous (for entries not falling in the previous categories).

The IPA program is sponsored by supplier Derprosa, who will present a final award for the best Derprosa rolling application, relating to the use of Deprosa film in the lamination of packaging.

Entries are invited from brand owners, designers and packaging manufacturers across the world, with no restriction on where a piece is made, designed or developed. Packs must be products launched in 2013 and 2014.

Winners will be chosen from a shortlist by a panel of industry experts, including Suzanne McEwen, head of marketing and communications at Pro Carton, and Kevin Vyse, a packaging technologist at Marks & Spencer.

Functionality, graphic design, new materials, shape, usability, but overall innovation, are some of the features judges will be looking for.

The deadline for submitting entries is September 30, 2014. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on November 5 at Packaging Innovations Madrid.

Visitors to the event will also be able to vote for their favorite in a popular vote contest.
