PPG’s Teslin achieves FDA food contact compliance

PPG Industries’ Teslin Food-Grade substrate has been confirmed as fully compliant with the US Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and all related food additive regulations for food contact applications.

Teslin Food-Grade

The Teslin substrate products business is part of PPG’s optical and specialty materials reporting segment. Teslin is a microporous sheet material suitable for card, specialty print, in-mold graphic, and tag and label use, as well as technology-focused applications such as e-passports and RFID cards and labels.

Teslin Food-Grade offers the same capabilities as standard Teslin, including resistance to water, chemicals, tears and scuffs, as well as withstanding exposure to ice, steam, hot and cold temperature extremes, and storage, shipping and handling conditions.

Designed for digital and variable print applications, Teslin Food-Grade is compatible with a wide range of print technologies.

Michelle Welch, PPG business director, responsible for Teslin substrate products, said this revised and updated confirmation of US FDA compliance permits PPG customers to use the Teslin food-grade substrate for single- and repeated-use applications, under all operating conditions for which the substrate is technologically suitable, with all types of food and without limits to material amount.

Welch said: ‘Customers in many industries have embraced Teslin substrate for its unique blend of durability and easy, high-quality printability. Teslin Food-Grade substrate now offers our customers an opportunity to grow their businesses by developing new and innovative ways to package, protect, label and display food goods.’
