SmartSolve launches plastic-free flushable packaging substrate

PureNil 0 offers 100 percent bio-based substrate for sustainable brands.

SmartSolve Industries has launched PureNil 0, the world's first plastic-free, 100 percent bio-based and flushable packaging substrate to meet growing demand for zero-waste flexible packaging.

The material is crafted entirely from renewable resources, eliminating synthetic polymers and petroleum-based inputs altogether. Unlike many eco-friendly alternatives that still contain plastic percentages, PureNil 0 is truly plastic-free and biodegradable, giving brands a credible foundation for sustainability claims.

'By providing a 100 percent bio-based, plastic-free alternative, SmartSolve is giving brands the tools to make bold, measurable progress toward environmental goals without sacrificing product integrity,' explained Alex Abbott, chief revenue officer at SmartSolve.

The material maintains SmartSolve's hallmark water-dispersible functionality, dispersing in water systems without releasing harmful microplastics. Consumers can recycle it with paper, compost it at home or flush it safely down the drain, creating multiple end-of-life options.

PureNil 0 runs on standard form, fill and seal equipment and is printable even on small mono-dose applications. Applications include household cleaning, feminine care, confectionery, personal care, agriculture and healthcare products.

The material represents SmartSolve's first direct food contact-certified substrate, meeting both ISO and FSSC 22000 facility standards. This breakthrough opensapplications for low-moisture barrier requirements, particularly in confectionery and single-serve food products.

'Brands now have a viable, scalable and commercially available alternative that's fully bio-based, plastic-free and water-soluble,' declared Jon Jakubowski, CEO of SmartSolve. 'This is the kind of innovation that will help our partners lead, versus just keep up, in the sustainable packaging movement.'
