Nordson enables UK water brand to reduce adhesive use

Nordson Corporation recently worked with Wales-based bottled water supplier Princes Gate Spring Water to develop a system that would streamline the efficiency and running costs of the carousel labelers used on its production line.

By replacing the traditional wheel and pot application system with a non-contact closed Nordson system, Princes Gate is now reportedly saving around 50 percent on adhesive consumption. Line efficiency has also improved due to a reduction in make-ready times and downtime for cleaning.

The new Nordson label application equipment allows Princes Gate to optimize production by delivering the precise amounts of adhesive accurately and consistently. Princes Gate has seen a reduction in energy with the new labeling system as compared to when the open wheel and pot system was in use.

‘We noticed an immediate improvement in our adhesive application online. Nordson was efficient with the installation, and we experienced minimal interruption to our manufacturing processes. I am pleased to report immediate benefits noted and our estimations indicate a short payback period,’ said Endaf Edwards, operations director for Princes Gate Spring Water.

Nordson’s non-contact label application systems apply spiral-shaped swirls, mini-swirls or mini dots to labels, containers and cross seams/lap seams. Slot guns can also be used to apply precise ribbons or stripes to cross seams. Closed systems prevent adhesive from being exposed to open air, debris, contamination and degradation. Closed systems also provide better process control, efficiency and material usage while minimizing maintenance, clean up, adhesive waste and reject products.

‘Nordson has installed a large number of label systems in the UK and the customers are extremely pleased with the benefits quickly seen. We have a highly trained specialist technical team who can both install the system and train the operators easily,’ said Chris Duggan, sales specialist for packaging and labeling equipment at Nordson.
