UPM Raflatac has received the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) recognition for a printed PP label with UV flexo inks and varnish that improves PET recycling of bottles and containers.

The proprietary top-coated PP with the proprietary wash-off adhesive leads to a cleaner PET recycling stream that enables improved recycling of PET bottles and containers. This recognition solves an industry-wide issue of recycling stream contamination with leaching of inks and/or ink components during the hot caustic wash cycle.

According to an APR review committee, appointed per the APR Recognition Operation Procedures, the data was ‘correctly obtained by a qualified laboratory and was completely presented to show the varnish and inks on an APR Recognized pressure-sensitive label substrate submitted meet or exceed all critical guidance’.

‘We are excited to be recognized for our continued commitment to the circular economy. The recognition of our BOPP pressure-sensitive labels with RW85C for PET bottles for use with an APR-approved ink system further provides a full solution to brand owners,’ said Gabrielle Whittaker, director of films and specials SBU at UPM Raflatac Americas.

The APR is an international trade association representing the plastics recycling industry. All member companies are committed to the success of plastics recycling. Membership spans the entire industry.
