Esko launches Cape Pack Prime

The new cloud-based platform calculates carbon footprint and optimizes packaging design for sustainability.

Esko has launched Cape Pack Prime, a cloud-based packaging sustainability platform that helps converters calculate carbon footprints and optimize packaging design to meet environmental targets.

The new platform extends Esko's Cape Pack software for packaging and logistics optimization by adding integrated carbon emission calculations developed in partnership with CarbonQuota, enabling brands and converters to measure and reduce environmental impact through automated carbon footprint calculations.

'As climate change concerns intensify, sustainability is no longer a choice, but a necessity across the packaging value chain,' stated Jan De Roeck, marketing director at Esko. 'Consumers are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious and exerting pressure on companies to adopt less impactful practices, while increasing regulations are applying pressure on brands to take more responsibility for their broader environmental impact.'

Cape Pack Prime uses real-world product models to calculate optimized packaging and palletization options that reduce costs and help customers meet sustainability KPIs. The platform creates and evaluates palletizing arrangements in seconds, generates CAD assets using dimensional pack data from actual products by importing 3D models, and evaluates case and pallet arrangements for compression strength and economic factors to identify lightweighting opportunities.

The system automatically generates right-sized CAD files, die-lines, 3D models and reports for chosen arrangements. It can reduce shipping costs by an average of 10 percent while protecting products from damage. It also instantly calculates pallet loads and shipping quantities for knocked-down flat products and shipping containers.

The platform features optional integration with Life Cycle Analysis systems for carbon footprint calculations.
