Innovia Films Ltd (Innovia) is a major producer of highly differentiated speciality Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films using a proprietary ‘bubble’ manufacturing process. The company holds a leading global position in the markets for high performance coated films, tobacco overwrap, labels and security films. Innovia employs 850 people worldwide and has production sites in Australia, Belgium and the UK. The company is focused on high quality value added products, strong customer relationships, Research &Development and excellent service.
Innovia has nearly 30 years’ experience of manufacturing pressure sensitive facestock films. The product range has over this time developed and now includes Rayoface™ pressure-sensitive facestock films for conventional, digital, thermal and variable information printing processes. RayoForm™ films for in-mould labelling, Rayoweb™ film for release liner applications and Ultrafoil food contact compliant (EU & FDA) label films, which offer superior narrow web print and foil performance.
With unique manufacturing and innovation capabilities, Innovia are striving to offer the labels market value through widening the applications that BOPP can be used for.
Polymer modifications enable fundamental changes in film performance. Balancing new polymer properties with manufacturing capability can offer exceptional opportunities for BOPP in new markets.
Innovia’s latest developments include down gauged squeezable Rayoface™ label facestock films CZFA51 (clear) and WZFA51 (white). They offer the opportunity to save time and money throughout the value chain if customers switch from using PE85 to these films, while gaining a squeezable film with excellent clarity for ‘no-label’ look applications and high gloss.
Also a new Rayoface™ film specifically designed for reclosable applications, such as wet wipes. This strong, thick (92 microns) film has exceptional clarity, allowing printed on pack branding to show through. It also has a special print and adhesive receptive coating to ensure high quality print performance. It is ideal for both large and small packs and the films robustness allows the pack to be easily opened and resealed without losing its stiffness. The fact that this performance can be achieved with a mono film, eliminating the need to laminate several layers together, reduces costs and resources.
New 60µm Rayoart™ BOPP clear and white films CGS and WGS for indoor and short term outdoor graphic art applications can be printed by flexographic, screen and UV inkjet processes. With up to two years outdoor usage (based on QUV testing) they offer viable alternatives to calendared PVC for flat and simple curved graphic applications or pressure sensitive label applications requiring extended outdoor usage.
Rayoweb™ CRS offers improved web stability for conversion through siliconisation processes, adhesive coating and narrow web label printing. High- speed dispensing and waste liner recovery is also greatly increased due to lower film elongation. BOPP films offer credible environmental benefits over PET through life cycle analyses and offer the opportunity for non-mixed label stock waste when used in conjunction with a PP facestock.
Rayoface™ VBev films offer BOPP film performance and the print and aesthetics of paper. These films are ideal for labelling applications in wet and humid environments such as Wine and Beverage labels. Printable through narrow web conversion, Rayoface™ offers exceptional ink and foil
adhesion in difficult environments.
