Hummel installs second Omet XFlex press
German label printer targets 165 tons annual CO2 saving with LED flexo investment.
Hummel, a fourth-generation family label printing business based in Magstadt, Germany, has installed an Omet XFlex X6 530 eight-color flexographic press, its second Omet machine following an X4 370 installed in 2018, with consultancy and commissioning managed by Chromos Deutschland.
The XFlex X6 530 supports high-quality color label printing and multiple finishing processes in a single pass, with integrated LED curing technology reducing energy consumption. The Magstadt facility is expected to save approximately 165 tons of CO2 per year through the transition to more energy-efficient systems, complemented by a photovoltaic system that supports energy self-sufficiency at the site's energy self-sufficiency.
The investment also removed offset presses from the production floor, requiring a full reorganization of the production area and the introduction of new prepress workflows. Operator training was completed through a five-day program before the press entered full production.
'Flexographic printing offers us greater cost efficiency, a wider variety of materials and increased production flexibility,' said Steffen Hummel, who has led the company since 2024. 'The new press allows us to optimize existing production processes and prepare our company for future challenges.'
'Fast job changeovers played a key role in the investment planning process, together with the drastic reduction of waste,' added Peter Plöhn of Chromos Deutschland.
Alongside its traditional B2B business, Hummel is expanding its digital sales channels through the Labelty webshop, with the new press providing the production capacity to support online orders for labels and packaging.
