Schreiner MediPharm expands Needle-Trap system

The needle protection label is now available for large-volume syringes up to 5 ml.

Schreiner MediPharm has expanded its Needle-Trap needle protection system to accommodate large-volume syringes of 2.25 ml, 3 ml and 5 ml, addressing the growing market for biologics and biosimilars that require higher fill volumes for viscous active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The label with integrated needle trap maintains the compact design of the original system, enabling material consumption, cost and CO2 emission savings compared to conventional needle protection systems or autoinjectors. Pharmaceutical manufacturers can process the expanded Needle-Trap on conventional dispensing systems without modifying secondary packaging.

'The market for biologics and biosimilars is continuously growing, confronting pharmaceutical manufacturers with new challenges in terms of primary packaging,' explained a Schreiner MediPharm representative. 'Highly viscous active ingredients with larger molecular structures increasingly require the utilization of large-volume syringes.'

Schreiner MediPharm conducted extensive testing to ensure reliable production processes and smooth processing on pharmaceutical manufacturers' labeling equipment. The system offers reduced space requirements for storage, transportation and cooling throughout the supply chain.
