ABG launches integrated non-stop unwind

The new system helps label converters maximise uptime and reduce operator involvement.

ABG International (ABG) has launched its integrated non-stop unwind, a compact finishing system designed to help label converters increase uptime and automation while reducing floor space requirements.

The system enables continuous production for blank web or pre-printed material converting, delivering splice registration accuracy of ±2mm. Built on ABG's existing unwinder and butt-splicer sub-assemblies, it integrates fully into the converter's control platform and saves over three meters of floor space compared to a standalone nonstop unit.

Compatible with Digicon Series and ABG Converters running 330, 440 and 540mm web widths, the new machine can be paired with a Vectra turret rewinder to create a fully non-stop configuration. Wider-web compatibility is currently under evaluation.

ABG will also launch a Matrix turret incorporating its Automated Matrix Stripping (AMS) device, which enables non-stop operation without a separate extraction system. The Matrix turret features an integrated face cutting station capable of cutting on any substrate and automatically performs a roll change once the rewind roll is full.

'Converters are under increasing pressure to do more with fewer operators, while still maintaining output and quality,' said Matt Burton, global sales director at ABG. 'The Integrated Nonstop Unwind has been developed using proven ABG technology and, when combined with our automation and matrix stripping capabilities, allows customers to run for longer without interruption.'
