Bobst, Mocon, RDM collaborate on barriers for flexible packaging

The event, dubbed a ‘Learnshop’, will take place at Bobst’s Centre of Excellence for High Barrier in Manchester, UK on May 16. The knowledge sharing event is the first step in a new collaboration between the three companies, and will focus on permeation properties and application of barrier materials. Market requirements and the latest developments in barrier materials will be highlighted.

The day will consist of technical presentations delivered by speakers including the Fraunhofer Institute, University of Manchester, Amcor and Dr Charles Bishop, an expert in vacuum coating. There will also be a presentation from PepsiCo giving a brand owner’s perspective on packaging and barrier requirements. Additionally, Mocon will present on the subject of the basics of permeation and Bobst on barrier options.

There will be opportunities for knowledge exchange and networking with the speakers and other participants as well as the opportunity to view the latest test equipment that will be on display. Mocon has developed the Ox-Tran 2/12 oxygen permeation instrument to provide produce marketers and their material suppliers with oxygen permeation data quickly and more easily to assist in meeting shelf-life goals.
