Qualvis invests in Heidelberg platesetter

Qualvis Print & Packaging has installed a Heidelberg Suprasetter 106 computer-to-pate (CtP) device with dual cassette loader and turntable.

The new CtP device will handle two plate sizes so having two plate trays, each holding up to 100 plates, provides flexibility. Although the platesetter will be tended from 6am to 9pm, it can operate unmanned to give 24-hour production.

The Leicester company was formed in 1982 and specializes in cartons for the food, multimedia and cosmetics markets, with clients including Waitrose and Tesco. It offers design services, and litho and digital print, and recently installed a uniquely configured double digital packaging line, incorporating a high degree of automation, as reported here.

Paul Watkinson, reprographic and pre-press manager at Qualvis Print & Packaging, said: ‘We are replacing an older Suprasetter but this latest version and the new laser configuration will give us 40 plates an hour, double the output.

‘The operators like the Suprasetter and the transfer has been seamless. Heidelberg service and support is very good; we have no complaints at all.’
