South African printer boosts inspection capabilities with AVT Helios S

South African printer Uniprint has invested in AVT’s Helios S system to boost its inspection capabilities.

Helios S is an automatic inspection system delivering 100 percent quality assurance

Helios S is an automatic inspection system delivering 100 percent quality assurance, and deploys dedicated, advanced algorithms designed to detect any type of defect including color misregister, color variations, misprints, text errors, spots, splashes, die-cut problems, barcode problems and missing labels. The system works with any substrate including self-adhesive labels, thick embossed metalized substrates, highly-reflective holographic foils and laminates.

With a manufacturing operation based in Durban, a regional sales office in Johannesburg and employing more than 300 people, Uniprint is one of South Africa's largest empowerment printers.

Prior to the purchase of Helios S, Lorne Andersen, production and technical manager at Uniprint, joined Rotocon sales director Pascal Aengenvoort, who lead the order, on a reference visit to a label printer in Germany to evaluate the AVT system in a live production environment. Based on that visit, return of investment evaluation, worldwide market adoption of Helios S, and local support by Rotocon, Uniprint confirmed the investment.

‘The AVT Helios S system will be a valuable extension to our finishing department, and we can rely on Rotocon to provide any necessary support,’ commented Andersen.

‘Rotocon has proven to be a valuable supplier to Uniprint with years of outstanding service and support through their local office in Durban. During a recent service call to our finishing department, the Rotocon technician provided exceptional work and went above and beyond the scope of the call to answer questions from the operators and provide additional training.’

Also ordered by Uniprint are two WorkFlow Links, an optional add-on module for Helios S that utilizes information recorded on press to automatically stop a rewinder, avoiding unnecessary stops on non-defective products and significantly improving overall production efficiency.
