Uflex invests in zipper machines to meet demand for new packaging product

Uflex Packaging, a business unit of Uflex, India’s largest multinational flexible packaging company, has placed an order for seven zipper installation machines from sister company Uflex Engineering in response to its work to develop innovative packaging structures.

An integrated D-punch handle and press-to-close zipper feature in the new pouch structure

The  investment has been necessitated by the development of the quad seal registered gusset pouch with a 3-ply laminate structure, as detailed here. This was developed for global dry fruit company Alrifai in response to its request for a new option to package pistachio nuts, and features PET (with registered matte coating), metalized polyester (with registered window) and nylon-based transparent PE layers, as well as an integrated D-punch handle and press-to-close zipper.

The zipper was integrated using a pocket zipper installation machine developed by the engineering arm of Uflex. With soaring demand reported for this product, Uflex Packaging has deemed there to be a need for investment in the additional machinery, resulting in the seven-machine order.

‘No other company in the world has been able to offer this perforated zipper solution,’ commented Anup Sachdeva, joint president, Packaging (global exports) at Uflex. ‘Just to give you an idea about the swelling demand for these pouches, Uflex Packaging has placed an order on the engineering business for seven more zipper installation machines to keep pace with the growing demand for quad seal registered gusset pouches from across the world.’
