In this collaboration, Avery Dennison will provide FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified materials to Rotolabel, which will convert them into labels customized to Woolworths’ requirements. Avery Dennison will provide various price neutral FSC-certified facestocks, adhesives and liners to be converted into labeling products for Woolworths Foods brand of products.

‘This collaboration is the first of its kind in South Africa,’ said Mark Ellis, commercial director for Avery Dennison Label and Graphic Materials in Sub Saharan Africa. ‘It demonstrates that sustainability can be integrated into almost every level in the label value chain – from procuring materials, manufacturing to retail.’

‘Sourcing sustainable commodities is a key part of the Woolworths Good Business Journey 2020 goals,’ said Tom McLaughlin, responsible sourcing, Woolworths Foods. ‘We are delighted to know that our supply chain partners, Rotolabel and Avery Dennison, are on the same sustainability journey and that  the trees used to make the paper used in our self-adhesive labels are now grown sustainably and comply with FSC. Our customers can now be assured that they are supporting products that have not been made at the expense of the animals, the plants, or people that inhabit those forests.’

Grant Watson, responsible for national sales at Rotolabel, concluded: ‘We are thrilled to be among the first movers to help drive change and create a sustainable future for everyone. We look forward to future opportunities to help brands across South Africa make a difference with responsibly sourced labeling products.’
