Goss hosts packaging seminar in Mexico

Production efficiency, quality advantages, shorter run-lengths and flexible repeats were among the hot topics at a recent packaging seminar hosted by Goss International in Mexico City.

More than twenty delegates from package printing and converting companies throughout Mexico traveled to the event, which was focused on the opportunities of Vpak web offset production.

Leonardo Clavijo, sales manager for Goss in Latin America, presented some of the technical advantages of the Sunday Vpak series including quick-change cylinder sleeves that make ‘infinitely' variable repeat lengths ‘easy and affordable’. He also outlined some of the advantages of high-tech inking and the ability to maintain a more precise control over finer detail for premium packaging designs.

A highlight of the event was the testimonial given by Marcos Jordão, director of operations for Videplast Brazil, in which he explained his company’s recent decision to order a Sunday Vpak 500 press. Jordão said print quality and production flexibility were key motivators for the investment.

As well as the technical aspects of the Vpak design, Goss representatives provided a detailed overview of cost models, which were particularly well-received according to Clavijo: ‘You could see the delegates sit up and take note when we illustrated the potential cost benefits of Vpak technology using data from real production models,’ he explained.

‘By switching the numbers for flexo and gravure platemaking and job set-up in different run-length examples with true corresponding values for web offset, they could really start to understand where the pay-off begins. The more frequent the job or version changes, the more appealing web offset becomes by comparison.’

To round off the seminar, Goss discussed consultancy services and financing options available. Representatives from QuadTech, ESI and Flint Group also presented during the event, describing how their products can enhance Vpak capabilities and performance.

‘From the flood of questions during the relaxed downtime at the end, it was clear the information presented had captured many imaginations,’ concluded Clavijo. ‘Delegates had a much firmer grasp of the benefits of Vpak technology and we particularly received a lot of questions about the procedure of integrating web offset into existing production scenarios.’
