Graphic Packaging completes deals to create European carton giant

- Acquisitions will create manufacturing platform in Europe similar to Graphic Packaging's US operations
- Deals first announced in final quarter of 2012
Graphic Packaging has completed its previously announced acquisitions of Contego Cartons and A&R Carton, in a move that will help it create one of Europe’s largest folding carton businesses.
Graphic Packaging announced it had agreed deals to buy the UK’s Contego , a supplier of food and consumer products packaging, and A&R Carton, which is A&R's European beer and beverage packaging business, in November last year.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Graphic Packaging is a provider of packaging solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage and other consumer products companies. It is already one of the largest producers of folding cartons, and customers include some of the most widely recognized companies in the world.
The combination of Graphic Packaging's European packaging business with these two acquisitions will create one of Europe's largest folding carton businesses.
The two acquisitions will provide state of the art web and sheet-fed converting assets creating a manufacturing platform in Europe similar to Graphic Packaging's US operations.
At the time of the takeovers, David Scheible, Graphic Packaging's president and chief executive officer, said: ‘The A&R acquisition, combined with last week's announced acquisition of Contego Cartons, gives Graphic Packaging a significant position in the European folding carton market and widens the company's global footprint.’
