UPM sells Smartrac shares to OEP

UPM has sold its 10.6 percent shareholding in Smartrac to OEP Technologie Holding.

Smartrac has introduced a number of product innovations in 2015, including the NFC inlay Midas+ for products with space restrictions

Smartrac operates in the field of RFID technology to make products smart and enables businesses to identify, authenticate, track and complement product offerings with digitally based services, and to link objects with customer’s IT systems and the internet.

Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, the company maintains further operations and production facilities in numerous countries and serves and supports customer projects across the globe. It has around 1,000 patents and patent applications for technology, equipment and production of contactless components and related processes.

Smartrac has introduced a number of product innovations in 2015, including the NFC inlay Midas+ for products with space restrictions, and Sensor Dogbone, a passive UHF moisture-level sensing inlay.

UPM became an indirect shareholder when selling its RFID business to Smartrac in 2012.
