Hyden Packaging debuts new bi-directional slitting inspection machine

Hyden Packaging has debuted the Hyden ServoTech B400HS bi-directional slitting inspection machine at Labelexpo India 2016, which builds on its standard uni-directional equipment.

Promod Jayakar, managing director, Hyden Packaging, with his son Aditya Jayakar, CAT Systems Engineer, at the launch of Hyden ServoTech B400HS bi-directional slitting inspection machine on day one of Labelexpo India 2016

Features of the machine include power operated unwind roll lifter, servo operated web buffer, individual servo operated dual shaft rewinder, secondary web aligner, electronically operated air expanding shafts and PLC controlled operating system with touchscreen interface. The machine on the show floor is displayed with an AVT Helios inspection system.

A roll of printed labels to be inspected is loaded into the machine. As the machine runs, the labels are inspected by an inspection camera which stops the web at a splice table when a defective label is detected. The operator then removes the defective label and replaces it with another. When the machine is re-started, the web reverses and the replaced label traverses beyond the inspection camera and stops. Thereafter, the web again moves in the forward direction and inspects the replaced label. If the new label is free of any defect, the web inspection continues else it stops again for operator intervention. Thus, all the labels undergo 100 percent defect detection unlike in uni-direction slitter inspection machines.

P J Jayakar, managing director of Hyden Packaging, said: ‘It is a state-of-the-art machine, comparable to European quality standards. It has evolved from our standard high speed uni-directional slitter inspection machine and caters to label printers requiring stringent inspection.’
