X-Rite adds eXact Xp for measuring flexible films

X-Rite has developed eXact Xp, a new option in the company’s award-winning eXact spectrophotometer platform designed to help package printers and converters more accurately measure color on flexible film materials.

eXact Xp is the latest addition to X-Rite's eXact family of spectrophotometers

The X-Rite eXact Xp supports the measurement modes M0, M1, M2 and includes all of the same features as the other devices in the eXact range of spectrophotometers, including X-Rite eXact Scan. It fully supports ISO color measurement standards and measurements are compatible with common measurement modes of the standard eXact on printed materials. The eXact Xp is also supported with existing eXact software and applications.

X-Rite said even the most sophisticated converters can find it challenging to measure color on flexible film substrates. For example, for some types of films, the orientation of the measurement instrument relative to the film’s extrusion direction can impact results. With the eXact Xp, X-Rite has addressed this challenge, introducing special enhancements that help users accurately and consistently measure on a variety of film substrates, including lamination materials and base structures.

As such, X-Rite said printers, ink and pre-media suppliers and brands can use this new handheld device to better understand, control, and manage colors on flexible film materials across the entire packaging supply chain.

‘The costs of getting color wrong on packaging can be significant,’ said Chris Winczewski, vice president of product marketing at X-Rite. ‘A packaging converter that measures color inconsistently runs the risk of customer rejections that result in time-consuming rework and waste. The new X-Rite eXact Xp addresses the unique challenges of working with film materials and can be used as part of an end-to-end color management process. With X-Rite eXact Xp for measurement, PantoneLIVE as a repository of reliable digital color standards and ColorCert: X-Rite Edition for statistical process control, packaging converters can deliver new levels of color control and increased service for their clients.’

eXact Xp will be on display at drupa 2016, and will be available in May on a worldwide basis through X-Rite channels and directly from X-Rite.
