Irplast cuts emissions 28.8 percent in 2025
Italian BOPP film maker publishes sixth sustainability report with first scope 3 data.
Irplast has published its sixth annual Sustainability Report, reporting a 28.8 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions versus 2024 and its first scope 3 emissions disclosure, mapping 131,790 tons of CO2eq across its value chain.
The Italian BOPP film and label manufacturer, which joined the Toppan Group in 2025, has committed to a 42 percent reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2020 baseline under the Science Based Targets initiative. Renewable energy now covers 100 percent of the company's grid needs through Guarantees of Origin, bringing renewables to 28 percent of total energy consumption.
The report highlights continued development of mono-material film lines including ECO+ containing internally regranulated material, LOOPP from chemical recycling of post-consumer plastic and NOPP from renewable sources including tall oil and used cooking oil, ISCC PLUS certified and delivering equivalent performance to traditional BOPP film. NOPP film production avoided 582 tons of CO2eq in 2025.
Installation continues of a new Brückner Maschinenbau production line with LISIM technology at the Atessa plant, representing an investment of approximately 60m EUR due for completion during 2026, designed to increase capacity and support mono-material film development aligned with PPWR requirements.
Irplast received an EcoVadis Silver Medal placing it in the top 15 percent of companies assessed globally, a B rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project and a Company of the Year award for integrated ESG finance at the Sustainability Award.
'We are making our plants ever more efficient and our products ever better suited to environmental challenges,' said Fausto Cosi, CEO of Irplast. 'Innovation and collaboration are the key to accelerating the transition towards an increasingly circular and sustainable economy.'
