Barcode reading, scanning and data processing

Once a barcode has been printed onto a label or product it will require to be read, decoded and the information rapidly sent to a computer or checkout terminal

Once a barcode has been printed onto a label or product it will, at some stage, require to be read, decoded and the information contained in the black-and-white lines rapidly sent to a computer or checkout terminal. 

Essentially, this requires three basic steps and decisions to be made:

  • An input or reading device, which may be a pen, wand, laser scanner, CCD reader or camera system which reads the barcode.
