Bobst launches compliant UV inkjet inks
Thalia ink set targets Swiss and German regulatory deadlines for label converters.
Bobst has launched Thalia UV Digital Inks for label printing, a TPO-free UV inkjet ink set formulated to align with the Swiss Ordinance 2026 and the upcoming German Ink Ordinance 2027, helping converters manage compliance risk ahead of regulatory enforcement deadlines.
The inks exclude more than 20 groups of substances of concern, including PFAS, phthalates, bisphenols, ITX, MOSH/MOAH, parabens and primary aromatic amines, and support compliance with EU 1935/2004, EuPIA Good Manufacturing Practice, REACH and leading brand-owner guidelines. Existing Bobst press users can switch to Thalia inks without hardware upgrades, inert gas or a primer on most substrates.
The ink system delivers color consistency at speeds up to 100 meters per minute at 1,200 x 1,200 DPI, supports wet-on-wet printing for extended color gamut and spot color reproduction and is suited to food, cosmetic and toy label applications.
Alongside the ink formulation, Bobst has developed a Food Contact Material governance framework combining authorized substance formulation, certified migration testing and predictive modeling to give converters a defined migration operating window and auditable compliance documentation.
'Brand owners are placing growing emphasis on risk mitigation and traceability,' said Patrick Graber, marketing director for labels at Bobst. 'Converters are no longer simply asked to comply, but to prove compliance with robust, evidence-based data across every application. With a fully compliant and future-proof ink set, converters not only have peace of mind, but are sure about the next steps in the regulatory framework and can prove it with tangible data and documents to their customers.'
