AIM Global, the industry trade association recognized as the worldwide authority on automatic identification and mobility solutions, has announced that AIM president Dan Mullen will address the DHS Privacy Office’s Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee in San Francisco, California, USA, on June 7, 2006. Mullen will be one of four technology experts selected to speak during the Public Comments segment of the all-day meeting addressing privacy concerns and issues surrounding the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies for national security protections.

The DHS Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee advises the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and the DHS chief privacy officer on programmatic, policy, operational, administrative, and technological issues within DHS that affect individual privacy, as well as data integrity and data interoperability and other privacy related issues.

As a component of the Association’s ongoing outreach and technology advocacy on behalf of the AIM industry, Mullen will specifically address the privacy and information security issues associated with the use of RFID to protect the physical security of American borders and travelers. ‘Border security and personal safety are getting a great deal of attention in the media,’ said Mullen, ‘and it’s important that consumers and their elected officials make reasoned decisions based on a realistic picture of the technology’s capabilities and built-in security.’

AIM Global is actively involved in addressing legitimate RFID privacy and security issues through its Education and Public Policy (EPP) Committee and its RFID Experts Group (REG).  AIM is also actively working to dispel myths and misconceptions about RFID technologies.
