The CPC Group is installing the new AVT PrintVision/Helios II automatic inspection system and MicroColor NW automated digital remote ink control on a new Nilpeter press, at its CPC Haferkamp facility in northern Germany, as part of an expansion of the company's labels operation.

CPC Haferkamp has recently ordered a new Nilpeter MO4 modular offset press for label and packaging applications. The press will be equipped with Microcolor NW, GMI’s remote digital ink control system; PrintVision/Helios II, AVT’s 100% automatic inspection system; and AVT’s WorkFlow Link software, providing press-to-rewinder digital workflow support.

The GMI Microcolor NW is an automated, fully digital remote ink control system designed for narrow web applications. Working in conjunction with the PrintVision/Helios II, operators can immediately identify any color shift and easily handle color changes detected early in the process by the PrintVision/Helios II. This enables press operators to run the press faster while still ensuring high color accuracy and print quality.

The AVT PrintVision/Helios II detects both process and random defects including mis-prints, mis-register, color variation, text imperfections, spots, splashes and more. All this data is automatically stored in the system’s database, where it can be viewed, analyzed and edited. Reports can then be generated and used for process improvement and quality assurance.

Information gathered from the PrintVision/Helios II is sent via the AVT Workflow Link software to a Leomat rewinder. The AVT Workflow Link uses the data from the press to control the rewinder, stopping it at the appropriate places so that defective copy can be removed.

’We have a number of AVT solutions in use throughout the group and this latest installation marks a new level of innovation, quality assurance and waste savings,’ said Ralf Gttler, technical director of CPC Haferkamp, based in Norden, Germany. ‘The combination of the PrintVision/Helios II and the GMI Microcolor NW gives us a level of quality assurance that will ensure our production for even our most demanding customers, including international brand managers.’

Koby Staierman, president of AVT Europe, said: ‘The installation at CPC Haferkamp is an important step in the integration of AVT and GMI technologies. The two systems not only provide a high level of quality assurance, but reduce the cost of quality, thus improving competitiveness, profitability and waste-saving.’
