Stratus Group installs two ABG Omega machines

AB Graphic International has sold two 430mm wide Omega VSR inspection rewinders to France-based label converter Stratus Group. The machines were supplied through French subsidiary AB Graphic Sarl and are part of a 10 million euro investment program that will enable Stratus to increase production efficiency and reduce lead times. Both models are specified to meet the demands of inspecting and rewinding a wide range of substrates and include clear on clear missing label detection, servo driven web tension control for thin and delicate substrates and razor and shear knife slitting.

‘We already have three Digicon label converting lines from AB Graphic International installed at our Limoges facility and have chosen to standardize our label inspection process with equipment from this reliable and well established company,’ said owner Isidore Leiser. ‘It was important for us to have two VSR models with similar specifications. This gives us the ability to switch work from one machine to the other so we always have back-up possibilities. We have been able to increase production speeds and can now offer customers even faster delivery times. In the face of rising energy costs and environmental pressures on packaging, we also decided to have both VSR models equipped with LED stroboscopes. These use less power and will help in reducing our carbon footprint. AB Graphic Sarl also supplied us with our new Nilpeter presses.’

Stratus Group comprises three label printing facilities in Limoges, Lyon and Lille with a total of 240 employees. The company is a supplier of labels for industrial use and serves a wide range of markets including, pharmaceutical, personal care, cosmetics, electronics and beverage. Products include self-adhesive, in-mold, thermo-sensitive and blister pack labels as well as security labels for tracking and logistics. Eighty percent of its production is for the local market with the remaining twenty formed of exports to eastern and western Europe and Africa.

The VSR inspection rewinder can also be supplied in 330mm and 530mm widths to comply with modern press size trends. A full range of options is available including motorized roll lift, razor and crush slitting, missing label, splice or flag detection and 100 percent print face inspection through PC-based camera system. The servo-driven version is available where the requirement is to convert a wider range of complex films and substrates.
