Amcor picks up award for innovative water packaging

- AquaFlexCan wins Best Packaging Innovation prize, with packaging champion Iconiq Drinks named as a finalist in Best New Brand or Business category
- AquaFlexCan introduced at UK marathons earlier this year through Iconiq Drinks brand
Amcor Flexibles has been presented with the Best Packaging Innovation prize at the Water Innovation Awards 2012, with its AquaFlexCan picking up the award.
The Amcor AquaFlexCan is described as a unique stand-up flexible container for packaging non-carbonated water and other still beverages.

The design features a laser perforation to facilitate easy opening, and the “tear-n-sip” concept requires no straw or scissors. The special seal geometry of the mouthpiece allows consumers to easily control the liquid flow and limits spills if the pack is knocked over.
Amcor lists potential applications for the pouch as ready-to-drink teas and coffees, sports drinks, chilled soup and waters. It also has application potential in the automotive sector.
Benefits are said to include product and brand differentiation, convenience and a lighter weight pack.
Iconiq Drinks
AquaFlexCan has been adopted by the Iconiq Drinks brand, and was introduced at several UK marathons earlier this year.

The winners were announced on October 9 at a special gala dinner in Barcelona held as part of the 9th Global Bottled Water Congress.
The Iconiq Drinks water pouch was also named as a finalist in the Best New Brand or Business category.
Bill Bruce, chair of the Water Innovation Awards 2012 judging panel, said: ‘From striking packaging to new flavours and functionality, these awards once again demonstrate that innovation continues to be a key driver in the packaged water industry, and initiatives in the environmental sustainability and ethical categories set best practice examples for others to follow.’
