Amcor targets India with Uniglobe acquisition

Amcor has acquired Indian flexible packaging business Uniglobe for AUS$19.8 million (US$20.6 million), expanding its existing footprint in India.

Amcor said India is a strategic high growth market for its flexibles packaging business, and that Uniglobe is strongly aligned with its existing business by servicing large multinational customers within the food, personal care and healthcare end user markets.

Uniglobe’s existing management will remain with the business, and will play a key role in supporting future growth in the Indian market, Amcor said. Uniglobe generates annual sales of approximately AUS$20 million (US$20.9 million), and was established in 1999 with a single plant located in Daman, 150km north of Mumbai. A second Daman plant was commissioned in 2008, supported by strong sales growth of over 20 percent in the last three years.

Amcor’s new combined Indian business will consist of five manufacturing sites offering its customers packaging solutions.

Ken MacKenzie (pictured, top), Amcor managing director and chief executive officer, said: ‘This is an important opportunity to expand Amcor’s footprint in the high growth Indian market.

‘The Uniglobe business comes with a strong management team, and a track record of delivering significant annual sales growth.’
