Lombardi and Screen showcase hybrid digital-flexo printing

Companies demonstrate integrated workflow combining inkjet and flexographic technologies.

Lombardi Converting Machinery and Screen have partnered to present a hybrid label printing configuration that integrates Screen's Truepress Label SAI S inkjet press with Lombardi's Digistar Hybrid line. The equipment will be showcased at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona.

The demonstration at Lombardi's booth in Hall 3, Stand E99 will feature live production of beer bottle labels to showcase the benefits of combining digital flexibility with flexographic speed. The hybrid workflow includes Screen's high-performance digital printing technology integrated with Lombardi's flexographic and semi-rotary die-cutting units.

'We believe hybrid digital and flexographic printing represents a new starting point for our industry,' noted Nicola Lombardi, marketing manager of Lombardi Converting Machinery. 'This joint technology gives converters the tools it needs to grow faster, handle diverse job types and stay competitive all while delivering the premium print quality its customers need.'

The hybrid configuration reflects growing demand from label converters seeking flexible printing workflows to address the increasingly competitive label converting industry. Lombardi's Digistar Hybrid line manages applications from short, variable-data runs to longer, more intricate print jobs while maintaining consistent quality and throughput.

Screen's contribution includes its Truepress Label 350UV SAI S digital inkjet label press and Equios workflow management software, enabling complex data sharing between the two technologies to support an automated, end-to-end label printing workflow.

The system delivers what the companies describe as a smart production workflow with digital flexibility, flexo speed and automation throughout. Lombardi's exhibition centers on hybrid technology under its 'Enter the Printdom' theme, while Screen focuses on label and flexible package printing technology, balancing speed, precision and adaptability from Hall 5, Stand 5D55.
