HP demos capabilities of Pack Ready for Labels at Labelexpo Europe 2017

HP has used an area of its stand at Labelexpo Europe 2017 to host live endurance test of Indigo-printed labels under stress.

The area, dubbed ‘Inkquisition’, is intended to demonstrate improved resistance for high-performance applications

Available for the HP Indigo WS6800, Pack Ready for Labels is a suite of pre- and post-print options for enhanced label resistance. It is enabled by novel chemistry that seals the label structure to create a bond with many off-the-shelf UV varnishes, and an upgraded in-line priming (ILP) unit. The HP Indigo ElectroInk fade-resistant yellow and HP Indigo ElectroInk fade-resistant magenta expand the addressability of applications that require a high level of lightfastness in outdoor conditions.

The area, dubbed ‘Inkquisition’, is intended to demonstrate improved resistance for high-performance applications offered by the new HP Indigo Pack Ready for Labels. The laboratory-style area recreates various environments, including: toiletry products in a steam chamber to create a bathroom environment; a moving rig to simulate beer bottles travelling in a truck; beverage bottles in ice buckets; and engine oil bottles immersed in oil to simulate an industrial environment.

Testing of Pack Ready for Labels has highlighted: chemical resistance of two hours, mechanical resistance in line with ASTMs and Finat tests; suitability for eight hours in an ice bucket; handling 30 minutes in boiling water; and eight hours of water resistance.

On Pack Ready for Labels, Trevor Smith, managing director of Amberley Adhesive Labels, said: ‘We’re very excited about it and clearly see the potential.  We even submitted samples to some of our customers and one of them has already confirmed they have passed their internal testing.’
