Multi-Action Labels supplying 29 février with digitally printed labels to support global retail presence
Canadian maple syrup producer 29 février is benefiting from a cost-efficient supply of labels in short runs for its eponymous premium product range thanks to the digital UV inkjet printing capabilities of its newly appointed supplier Multi-Action Labels, based in Québec City, and which is helping it achieve supermarket listings in Canada, the USA and Korea.

The labels for the six varieties of maple syrup – light, amber and dark grades, and organic alternatives for each – produced by 29 février feature extensive use of text on a white background to educate consumers about the subtle flavors and serving suggestions. A 'no-label look' window reinforces the impact of the brand name, and offers appreciation of the product contents. Designed by lg2 boutique of Montreal, the labels were originally screen-printed opaque white followed by digital toner process for black and green.
In pursuit of a labeling option that offered higher productivity, lower label unit costs and ordering flexibility, and to achieve supermarket listings in Canada, the USA and Korea, 29 février, which translates from French to the date of February 29, turned to Multi-Action Labels and its 8-color, 13in-wide SPGPrints DSI UV inkjet press, which offers single-pass printing and converting.
Operating a fully digital workflow means Multi-Action Labels is able to offer 29 février lead times of within 48 hours, and even the possibility of same-day deliveries. Furthermore, the converter was able to ensure high-impact and durable image reproduction as SPGPrints’ proprietary inks offer high scratch-resistance and, in white, an optical density of 93 percent.
Jonathan Bourbonnière, president of Multi-Action Labels, said: ‘The 29 février brand, with its exceptional quality and an elegant packaging, is transforming the perception of maple syrup as a fine food product. With our digital UV inkjet label workflow based on the DSI press, we are well-placed to offer the high levels of flexibility and shelf-impact needed to ensure the brand’s international success.’
