Hammer expands IML capabilities

US-based converter Hammer Packaging has installed a web-fed Berhalter die-cutter to increase its in-mold production capabilities.

The company entered the in-mold market in the mid-1990s as one of the first printers in North America capable of printing sheetfed offset on OPP films.

The system can die-cut complex shapes direct from Hammer’s VSOP or flexo web and is described by the company as a ‘perfect complement to these multiple formats of roll-fed printing’.

Hammer has invested in the largest fleet of variable sleeve offset printing (VSOP) presses in North America. The company’s third VSOP from Muller Martini will be arriving in November 2012. This press offers UV or Electron Beam (EB) inks with multiple coating options.

The VSOP complements Hammer’s new (and second) 10-color UV flexo press from Nilpeter, installed in May 2012.
