Tresu extends packaging portfolio

Tresu has acquired the rights from paper and packaging group Stora Enso to manufacture and market a new flexo coating system for integration into sheet-fed folding carton converting lines that feature digital printing.

Originally developed through collaboration between the Stora Enso subsidiary Stora Enso Digital Solutions and Tresu, the Digital Sheet Coater is designed to enable folding carton converters to target short production runs and serialization in a number of high-end niches, including confectionery, direct marketing, gifts and pharmaceuticals.

The machine will be built at Tresu's Bjert, Denmark-based factory, which is also the location of the company's global headquarters.

Tresu has also been working with HP Indigo to develop an in-line coating system, the iCoat 30000, for the new HP Indigo 30000 folding carton press.

Søren Maarssø (pictured, top), Tresu chief operating officer, said: ‘Through long-standing partnerships with many of the world’s foremost offset folding carton converters, Tresu has a wealth of expertise to enable the successful integration of coating technology into virtually all carton converting lines, regardless of process.

‘With its capability to offer a competitive means of meeting the demand for shorter production runs, the digital process is important to us and our customers. The Tresu Digital Sheet Coater will enable folding carton converters to smoothly transition to the digital process, capitalize on this growth by offering a raft of innovative value-added coating solutions.’
