Amcor has placed its first commercial order of certified-circular polymers using ExxonMobil's Exxtend technology.

The order will be used for packaging in the Australian and New Zealand market and will make Amcor the first flexible packaging company to offer certified-circular plastics in this region. The move supports partial displacement of fossil-based feedstock and meets the growing consumer demand for plastic circularity.

ExxonMobil's Exxtend technology offers certified-circular polymers that are identical to polymers made from conventional fossil feedstock. These polymers carry the international sustainability and carbon plus certification and can be used in existing applications that would otherwise require the use of virgin resins.

Richard Smith, Amcor's sustainability director for Asia pacific, believes that this order is a significant step toward helping customers achieve circularity of their flexible packaging in Australia and New Zealand, while also meeting the country's 2025 packaging targets.

Smith said, ‘We are excited to provide our customers in Australia and New Zealand access to this important resource, and to contribute to developing more sustainable solutions that help our customers and their brands continue to meet consumer needs.’
