Italian press manufacturer Nuova Gidue is aiming to grow its presence in the southern hemisphere, after recently installing a pair of presses in Australia and New Zealand.

New Zealand’s Presson Labels, which manufactures self-adhesive labels, installed a Combat M1 press in December 2012.

The eight-color UV, 370mm-wide press features chill drums, a servo-motor in-feed, pre-register and the waste material rewinder SnowBall.

It is able to run different substrates for the production of self-adhesive labels, sleeves and wrap-around labels.

Kevin Aisher, Presson Labels chief director, said: ‘Our market is extremely demanding, therefore we needed a quick change press to be flexible on delivery time as well as quality.’

The M1 installed at Presson Labels follows an M5, which was installed by Rapid Labels of Victoria, Australia. Also a producer of self-adhesive labels, the M5 digital flexo unit allows it to print a wide range of materials such as self-adhesive, unsupported film, aluminum foils, carton and tubes.

The machine is a fully servo-driven, eight-color UV press with a width of 430mm, and is equipped with PrintTutor, which reads the printed image on each print unit and automatically adjust the print pressure, register and density using seven servo motors in each print station.

A converting section features the waste material rewinder SnowBall, and three die-cutting units equipped with Digi-Gap for automatic die-cutting pressure disengagement and pressure control.

Gidue said its recent successes in Australia and New Zealand are the direct consequence of its working partnership with its local distributor Gulmen Engineering, which has been in operation for seven years and resulted in the installation of 15 Gidue machines to date.

Cristina Toffolo, Gidue sales and marketing director, said: ‘Our partnership with Gulmen Engineering has been rewarding.

‘We cooperate as a team and we are confident that our service will keep satisfying the customers' expectations and pave the way to new business opportunities.’
