Landa, EFI first to receive expanded FograCert VPS certification

EFI and Landa have received the first Fogra expanded FograCert validation printing system (VPS) certification for the combination of the Fiery digital front end technology and S10 nanographic printing press.

Landa, EFI first to receive expanded FograCert VPS certification

The objective of Fogra Forschungsinstitut für Medientechnologien (Research Institute for Media Technologies) is to promote print engineering and its future-oriented technologies in the fields of research and development, and to enable the printing industry to utilize the results of this activity. To this end, the association maintains its own institute, with about 50 staff members including engineers, chemists and physicists. Fogra's principal tasks concern research, development, transfer of know-how, development of standards, and consultancy.

ISO 12647-8 originally specified criteria and tolerances for the certification of VPS, as well as for validation print creation in the field. The certification now covers combination printing systems that include a printing system, driving software, color management software, substrate, and a simulated printing condition that more accurately represents today's print production process.

Dr Andreas Kraushaar of Fogra said: ‘This new “combi-certification” extends the established FograCert VPS testing regime beyond single print validation to an evaluation of print run stability stipulated by ProcessStandard Digital (PSD) (ISO/TS 15311).

‘We were pleased to work with both Landa and EFI in conducting this first-of-its-kind certification of ISO compliant validation prints for Landa's S10 press and the press’ EFI Fiery digital front end.’

Gilad Tzori, vice president of product strategy at Landa Digital Printing, commented: ‘The Fogra seal is an important validation of the quality of our Landa S10 nanographic printing press. It also validates our choice of partnering with EFI. While certification based on a single print has been the standard for some time, we believe this new certification, which tests print run stability, is an important validation of the Landa S10 print quality. Our customers can be reassured of consistent quality at Landa digital print speeds.’

John Henze, vice president, sales and marketing, EFI Fiery, added: ‘By meeting new validation requirements like the FograCert VPS certification, EFI and Landa are working to ensure that printing companies' customers can have greater confidence in the print they buy, which ultimately helps create more opportunities for growth in high-volume digital printing.’
