FastCap is a manufacturer of unique household products located in Ferndale, Washington, with over 2,000 distributors in 40 countries, awarded the prestigious Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award for lean manufacturing in 2016.

A first-time customer of Screen Americas and new to inkjet technology, FastCap’s founder and chief executive officer, Paul Akers, previously operated flexo in-line roll presses in his 50,000 sqft facility. Being a lean manufacturer of more than 800 products designed to improve the daily lives of woodworking professionals and homeowners, Akers operates his presses intermittently.

The company needed a press that would meet several challenges, including printing on specific grades of paper and printing close to the paper’s edge. Akers chose low migration ink to print labels for food products and opted to add white and orange to the standard CMYK colors.

Before purchasing Screen’s technology, the company had been devoting at least eight hours a day to any given print job. According to the company, with the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM, the same jobs are now completed in as little as seven minutes each. With the extra time, Akers can now schedule multiple print jobs in a single day and focus on other areas of the business that might need attention.

At least 60 percent of FastCap’s printing projects have already been transferred to the Truepress Jet L350UV+LM and Akers expects to eventually migrate 100 percent of his print jobs onto his new press.

‘The quality is better, the ink is more durable, and it is faster than my other presses,’ said Akers.
