Jaakkoo-Taara adopts fully digital workflow with Xeikon
Finnish packaging printer Jaakkoo-Taara has chosen to create a truly digital workflow from order to final product with Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite.

The company, a specialist in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and food industry, has invested in Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite with a Xeikon 3500 digital press to add digital capabilities to its existing offset and flexo production. The digital press prints at up to 600 sqm/h in five colors. Its fifth color station can be used to apply special colors and effects.
Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite offers a ready-to-use package, making it easy to configure an efficient and cost-effective set-up for the digital production of folding cartons. It is ideal for high quality cost-effective short runs of folding cartons and labels. The suite offers a basic press configuration equipped with a fifth color in combination with CMYK. The extended color gamut ensures the accurate production of a wider range of brand colors. The fifth color could be orange, red, blue, green or white. Color management is made easy by cloud-based Xeikon Colour Control. Jaakkoo-Taara can also offer digital spot varnish with Xeikon’s Durable Clear Toner for scuff and scratch resistance, and UV- or water-based varnish.
Founded in 1935, Jaakkoo-Taara prints more than 20,000 packaging and printed projects a year.
Thomas Brusila, managing director of Jaakkoo-Taara, explained: ‘We wanted to produce high print quality combined with increased efficiency and the ability to produce both cartons and labels. The new system will enable us to introduce serialized pharmaceutical packaging and personalized packaging and labels. With digital we can also easily produce security and tamper evident features and we think we will be able to add value by offering that.
‘We liked the fact it gave us the possibility to introduce a highly automated digital workflow that will enable us to increase our output efficiency. We can reduce errors and be faster and better. Streamlining production allows us to have a more collaborative approach and we can also be more flexible with how we work with our customers.”
Ari Enroth, sales area manager for Xeikon, added: ‘We are delighted that such a highly-respected packaging specialist has chosen to integrate Xeikon digital technology into its varied production mix. It is clear the capabilities of the folding carton suite will allow it to enhance its support for its current customers while adding new services to its portfolio.’
