St-Luc Labels & Packaging invests in water-based laminator

St-Luc Labels & Packaging has acquired a Comexi L20000 water-based laminator to complement film products printed on its HP Indigo 20000 digital press.

The Comexi L20000 is a water-based laminator developed in partnership with HP Indigo to complement the 20000 digital press

The Comexi L20000 is the result of a strategic agreement between HP Indigo and Comexi to respond the requests from flexible packaging field. This equipment has been designed to enable a reduction in  the product lifecycle, allow mass customization and personalization, offer fast delivery times, easy switch between lamination and coating, and to make it possible to deliver a complete packaging in less than 24 hours.

The water-based machine minimizes waste at the startup of a job, an essential benefit when facing the growing trend of very short runs, which also means saving in costs and reducing environmental impact. Alongside short delivery times, the Comexi L20000 is designed to offer efficient time-to-market thanks to its energy efficiency and minimal noise pollution.

Niko Dhondt, managing director at St-Luc Labels & Packaging, commented: ‘We saw many water-based laminators and, finally, we confirmed that L20000 technology gave the best answer to our needs in short-run flexible packaging in terms of set-up time, waste reduction, curing time and, moreover, we are still a solvent free company.

‘L20000 is a perfect match in order to serve the market of short runs of flexible packaging. Now, we can deliver film products to our clients in less than one week thanks to its fast curing time, which is a clear benefit in combination with digital printing.’

Installed at the company's headquarters in Belgium, this is the first lamination machine at St-Luc Labels & Packaging and will enhance the performance of its latest production hall, which contains different printing, laminating and digital technologies for flexible packaging costumers. The company has recently acquired a Comexi S2 DT slitter and has other commercial agreements in mind.

Carles Rodríguez, lamination brand manager at Comexi, said: ‘We payed close attention to the design of the L20000 in order to fulfill all the specific digital market needs. It’s delightful to see that we did a great job and our customers are succeeding and growing. This is the best recognition for Comexi.’
