The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) has established the Mark C. Garvey Scholarship in memory of Mark C. Garvey, past chairman of PMMI and a long-time supporter of packaging education, who passed away earlier this year.

‘Mark was a tireless supporter of packaging education and gave significant time and effort to packaging schools across the US,’ noted Charles D. Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI. ‘His legacy of commitment and focus on packaging education will live on through this scholarship program.’

The Mark C. Garvey Scholarship will be awarded to students at technical schools who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the packaging industry. PMMI will rotate the scholarship among technical colleges throughout the country that demonstrate a significant contribution to packaging education.

‘PMMI’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to support this scholarship effort not only to recognize Mark’s efforts, but to demonstrate leadership in the packaging community,’ added Yuska. ‘The future of our industry lies within the packaging curriculum schools that support the future employees of PMMI member companies.’

Each school will be tasked with nominating a student who espouses the values that made Mark Garvey a leader in the packaging industry: innovation in packaging machinery, a commitment to excellence and the spirit of giving back to the packaging community.

Mark C. Garvey was the owner and president of Garvey Corporation in Blue Anchor, New Jersey, until his passing in May of 2006 after a battle with cancer. Garvey served in many leadership roles within PMMI including its Chairman in 1994, and chairman of the show committee and education committee.
