Treofan Americas to boost capacity by 50 percent with new BOPP line in Mexico

Treofan, a manufacturer of specialty biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films, is investing 45 million USD in a new five-layer, 10.4m orientation line at its Americas plant in Zacapu, Mexico.

The new asset, manufactured by Brückner and due to begin operation in the fourth quarter of 2018, will result in a net capacity increase of some 30,000 tons per year or 50 percent of the plant’s current capacity. An existing small line from 1992 will be mothballed.

Allan Crighton, Treofan Americas chief operating officer, said: ‘We have been working in close cooperation with Brückner to design a line capable of producing our current and future specialty BOPP film products at more than 10 meters wide and at speeds of up to 600m/min, building on the experience gained with the 8.2m five-layer Brückner line, which has now been running for almost 10 years.’

Treofan said it has grown its Americas business consistently over the past 20 years with investments so far totaling 100 million USD in two lines, and Jon Knight, Treofan Americas CEO, commented: ‘The additional asset represents the next phase of the group’s reinvestment strategy which was initiated in 2014 at our facility in Neunkirchen, Germany.

‘The advanced capacity and capabilities will enable us to continue to grow with our valued customers in our key markets.’
