Cool-Therm targets printers with new chiller

Air conditioning and refrigeration equipment specialist Cool-Therm is targeting its new Turbomiser chiller at print shops, claiming energy savings of up to 60 percent.
 
The Turbomiser chiller is described as “ultra-efficient” and suitable for cooling and controlling the indoor environment of printing works.
 
On some projects, the savings can cut pay-back time to less than a year, Cool-Therm said.
 

Frictionless magnetic bearings

The Turbomiser uses a new type of compressor based on virtually frictionless magnetic bearings. When combined with high-efficiency EC fans and its onboard intelligent control system, the chiller can more than halve the energy costs associated with conventional air conditioning chillers.
 
The latest generation of Turbomiser is equipped with an evaporative system on the face of condensers coils, reducing temperatures in the vicinity of cooling coils by up to eight degrees C, further improving the chiller’s energy performance.
 
Other features include: micro-channel aluminum condensers, which increase the effectiveness of heat exchange; flooded evaporators, which ensure optimum energy transfer between refrigerant and water; inverter-controlled Turbocor compressors, whose output can be precisely matched to load; and an adiabatic cooling system that significantly increases cooling capacity and reduces energy consumption.

It is the fruit of a five-year development program by Cool-Therm, its partners and Italian manufacturer Geoclima.
 
There are already some 200 successful installations to date in offices, hotels and computer centers across the UK.
 
Its inventors are now targeting the printing industry to provide cooling and indoor environmental control to ensure consistency, maintain productivity and deliver high quality results. The Turbomiser chiller is available in capacities from 250kW to 1.5MW, suitable for use in printing works of all sizes.

Ken Strong, managing director of Cool-Therm, said: ‘The energy performance is staggering.
